A new favorite person!

I try very hard to treat those around me with respect because it is the right thing to do. However in my life there are few I really do respect because of who they are. I got to add a person to the list of people I truly respect this last week at War. I am glad I went there if for no other reason that that!

In the SCA there are what I call family groups. Each family group gives a "favor" which is usually worn on the belt that signifies who belongs to the group. Like all families there are older, more experienced members who mentor the younger less experienced members. Rob's mentor is supposed to be this lady named Cpt Alex. Rob thinks she is the best. I wasn't all that impressed with her because I never once saw her do anything I would consider mentoring. She didn't look out for Rob at all. She wasn't there for him. However when I said that Rob got all serious and told me that I must cut her some slack because she has a lot going on. I almost said...Who doesn't????...but she is so important to him I have decided to look for the good and try not to hold what I saw at this war against her.

In Rob's camp there was a man named Ian. He is one of those people who is quiet so you don't notice he's even there alot of the time....but he notices everything! When I am around him I just feel safe...it's a great feeling.

I am not sure what Rob would have done without him at this War. Every time Rob had a need Ian stepped up. Rob never needed to ask. Ian just knew and filled it. I was so impressed with this man because of his compassion, dedication, knowledge and willing spirit. Knowing him makes me want to be a better person. For those of you in SDA land I would compare him to Elder Hadley. They were made of the same cloth as they both have that fatherly quality about them that makes everything be okay.

Work is getting rather busy so I must run....
