The SCA event we went to was NOTHING like what I expected. Over all it was a lot of fun. It really is hard to explain unless you've experienced it. I've mentioned that everyone comes up with a persona and a SCA name. Rob's SCA name is Dante McGavin.....mine is Gwen McGuinness. Rob/Dante is the Kingdom sheriff which means he is in charge of security for the entire event. I knew this going in....but had little idea what it would actually be like.

The event (also known as WAR)is actually pretty amazing! Basically an entire city goes up over night. There is even a mall with complete with food court...they call it Merchants row and it has all kinds of stuff people in that time period would have. Pretty neat stuff too. It's like the Ren Faire only much cheaper and much better.

We got there and literally got our tent set up when a terrible micro burst like wind blew through. It knocked out quite a few tents in Merchants row. Rob wasn't supposed to be on duty until 8am the next morning....but off he went to secure tents and make sure everything was running smoothly. He worked pretty much 24/7 the entire War.

The first couple days I really struggled with jealousy issues. Everybody wanted him for something. I discovered I am indeed a very spoiled girl. I am used to him focusing 100% on me when we are together. I got over it eventually...I don't even think Rob had time to notice anyway. LOL

At War everyone gets sloshed. It apparently is expected and it is pretty darn funny to hear people compete as to who A) drank the most B) has the best quality C) has the most alcohol.
Well it was funny until.....

Wednesday Rob was called to control a bar fight gone bad. By the time he got there the bar fight was over....and the two people involved had a fight outside too. One of them had a very split open chin. Long story short one of the guys got out of control and attacked Rob. He tried to punch him and pushed him and then when Rob knocked him on the floor and had him restrained the guy bit him!!!

I have never been more scared in my life. I have never been around people who drink. I have never witnessed an actual fight. It took 6 guys to hold this fool down so he would calm down...he kicked an EMT in the face and soon he found himself being taken away by a Pinal County Sheriff. This was an event I certainly could have done without. Rob pretty much just shrugged it off as not a big deal. He thought it was kinda funny. His sense of humor and mine are apparently quite different.

We also got to deal with a guy who was so drunk he went head first into a canal (no water in it fortunately) and had to be flown to the nearest trauma center. He was fine...got 3 or 4 stitches and was back the next day.

As much work as we did all and all I enjoyed myself. Rob is completely in his element being in charge. He has a natural charisma...people want to lead where he follows...and he is absolutely TIRELESS when it comes to doing his work. I have to respect him because he does it with such a willing spirit.

I love that man!

I am going to write another post about respect....because it needs to be separate from this one....more to follow....hey two posts...one month...it's a miracle
